Top notch writing here
Great book I read following Death Sight. Will Castleton's character could easily go on and on with stories that would not at all get boring. I'm fast becoming one of David Bain's biggest fans. Great diversity in the different stories and not the same "cookie cutter" stuff again and again. Makes you dig Will Castelton even more since he embarks on these different "missions" all having to do with the supernatural of some sort. Most definitely two thumbs up and 5 stars for this one as well. Can't wait for "Green River Blues" to come out!
Ho-hum
OK, but lacking that certain something to make it special - possibly because this is a collection of stories written at different times for differing reasons. Because the stories take place at different times in the protagonist's life, it's somewhat difficult to understand what's going on because there isn't a back story.
The best, i.e., the most entertaining and inventive, story is the "lighthearted" one that was really written as a throw-away.
Castleton files.
I do love me some David Bain! I especially adore Will Castleton and the myriad characters that are included in his stories. Will has really developed his paranormal abilities over the course of these tales and I'm looking forward to reading more about him. I have almost every book of Bain's but I've only read the short stories and novellas, I hope to remedy this situation soon. So many books, yet so little time. Yep, I'd recommend everything by this author. He's one of the good 'uns!
Tortured Psychic Detective Kicks Ass
Will Castleton is a tortured psychic detective that uses his "gift" to solve crimes and help people with their ghost problems. Will is a complex and developed character, struggling to do the right thing, but desiring to be normal again. His girlfriend is as tortured as he is--they make a great pair.
Bain's prose is good. His descriptions are vivid, whether they are of the blighted areas of the Chicago or topical island getaways. Action scene's are frenetic.
I read these stories one a night before bed--but had to stop myself from reading all five the same night.
New author - David Bain
Really enjoyed it! I LOVE Dean Koontz's books and David Bain's character and stories are similar. So I had to read more. I subsequently bought his full-length novel with Will Castleton. I will read his other planned novels as they are released. The charactet of Will is immensely likeable. Thanks to the original free story that I acquired on my Kindle that introduced me to David Vain.
