The Conversation that Shapes my Identity
Description
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1
1. What does it mean to die to yourself? To kill off the ‘old me’?
2. If we have to do this in order to live from our new identity, the question is how do we do it?
- We want people to move beyond theory and into practically what does this look like in our daily lives?
3. We need to be saved from our own motivations! What are some of the wrong motivations I have to be aware of in my life?
- Serving to get noticed? Being generous to be praised? Let’s be specific!
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
4. How aware of my own mindset am I?
- We are told to embrace the renewing of our minds, which means we must grow in our awareness of it.
- Do we notice when our mindset drifts away from faith into fear?
5. Can you identify any unhealthy patterns in your own life?
- We all have them! They could range from something like apathy towards prayer all the way through to comfort eating when stressed!
6. Discuss how you view the ‘will of God’ in your life.
- Like a tight rope you walk along, or a trail that you discover?
