God created humanity with various desires and needs to be met through our relationship with him. The world offers alternatives in God's absence. Alcohol is one example. It is important that we understand what alcohol is, how the bible views it's consumption, and God's promise to completely meet our needs (Jhn 6:35 ).
In doing this, we uphold God's testimony as 'the light of the world, a city set on a hill', we remain 'in the world but not of the world', and we are able to give an answer 'to every man that asks a reason of the hope' that is in us (Mat 5:14 , Pet 3:15 , 1Per 2:9).
