Too many people overuse the term relationship to describe the status between themselves and the person they love even when they are in the very early dating stage of getting to really know someone. The dating phase of a relationship is the most important phase because it is your journey of discovery to allow you to determine if you and your new love interest are compatible and want similar things from life and love. Many times, in an effort to get to the relationship stage, people tend to blow past the dating phase. Today we will explain, in great detail, why this discovery phase of getting to know someone is crucial to your own happiness!

It is better to get to know a person in the dating phase prior to entering into a relationship, so you have time to learn if you two are or aren't suitable for a relationship and dissolve the idea early rather than lead yourself and another person down a rabbit hole that isn't going to go in the direction that you intend it to go. Not everyone you meet will be suitable for a relationship with you. I used to date this way. Then, I tried other ways, which simply were not sustainable to adequately get to know a person. This way is a better approach to getting to know a person, so there is a reduction of unrealistic expectations. I enjoyed you asking the question: why are you in a relationship that isn't functional for you? This way self accountability, self acceptance, & self responsibility begins with you. Otherwise, it would be very easy to project blame on the other person or to remain in an unhappy relationship that will not improve because no one is
