(PS: I know that Cenk hasn't used the terms Hitler and nazi, but I still don't think that it is good for him to use the word fascist when he can't meaningfully define it or account for the fact that Hitler is the primary person who comes to mind when you use that label.)
you can make a pretty good case that Trump is problematic. but that he is literally Hitler and will set up a totalitarian state? you do realize that the president doesn't have the authority to do that, right? and that most Republicans would strongly oppose any attempt? and this is all assuming that he even wants to do that in the first place. this is why you look unhinged to Trump supporters when you work yourself up into a panic, call them Nazis, & claim that democracy itself has come to an end
still trying to get to the fascism. he seems to do what many online are doing: pointing to authoritarian tendencies (or what they believe to be evidence to that effect), getting worked up, and then using the fear and outrage to extrapolate to full-blown fascism. the approach doesn't actually define fascism, or draw clear parallels. he can't understand why we don't see what is "so obvious" to him. it's just difficult to jump from points A to B to Z for many Americans.
Interesting discussion, thanks. While I think Cenk often seems like a blowhard and I only agree with half of what he says, there is definitely some merit to the other half. He even seemed to have more nuance than I remember.
