On 2 March 2023, the Supreme Court directed that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the Election Commissioners (ECs) shall be appointed by a 3-member committee comprising of:
- Prime Minister
- Leader of (the largest) Opposition
- Chief Justice of India
