Description

In an increasingly global economy, with rapidly increasing rates of technological innovation, it is ever more important to build industries based on innovative science and engineering. The ongoing Emerging Industries Programme at the Institute for Manufacturing is concerned with understanding the translation of scientific ideas into products and services. The interview introduces the programme and will demonstrate how “emergence maps” can depict the growth of existing industries. The discussion will explore some of the recurring factors that have been found to promote or inhibit emergence and a preliminary model depicting the processes underlying it.
