Publisher's Summary:
To Those who Appreciate Wisteria and Sunshine. Small medieaval Italian Castle on the shores of the Mediterranean to be Let Furnished for the month of April. This small advertisement sparks something long dormant in the reluctant hearts of two downcast London women - the possibility of happiness.
Meet Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Arbuthnot. Both are churchgoers, and very good, dutiful wives - they do everything that is expected of them. And they are both incredibly unhappy. Through this elegant novel, we see them work through their disparate struggles and rise from the ashes, with the help of wisteria and sunshine.

Members Reviews:
Just doesn't read well
Difficult sentence construction that may be aimed to make it sound more British makes it difficult to read. Very clumsy. I cannot recommend this book. The development of characters is lacking in some respects also. However, the sentence construction makes it a hard read. Perhaps fans of British dramas will look over it. Even after living in England for five years I found it contrived.

This is a sweet story of people changing in a particularly beautiful environment
This is a sweet story of people changing in a particularly beautiful environment. Four women who are strangers share expenses in order to afford a holiday in Italy. Conflicts occur due to the personalities of the women, two of whom are rather naive and two who are worldy, and then the husbands decide to visit! By the end of the book, the worldly are humble and the naive are wise.

Brit Ladies Unravel?
Love the prim and proper British ladies and their hang up at the beginning. I haven't finished yet, but the first chapter had me wanting more. I have a feeling that being in an Italian castle for a while will cause them to view life differently.

Will Make you Want to Go to Italy!
I loved this book. It made me want to rent a villa in Italy! Well written and descriptive. The book was written shortly after WW 1 when life was pretty dismal and so many men had died. Rose and Lottie find themselves renting a villa in Italy seeking relief from their dreary housewife life. I felt I could relate to Rose and Lottie and how they felt the need to go somewhere beautiful where there was sunshine and flowers blooming. Read the book and then watch the movie (The later one with Michael Kitchen) With only a slight variation the movie actually follows the book. One of my favorite books!

Enchanted indeed.
A bit different than the movie, but gives more depth for each character. Like a mini-vacation.
