In 27 AD, Rome witnessed one of the deadliest stadium disasters in history when a hastily built wooden amphitheatre in Fidenae collapsed during a gladiatorial spectacle. Packed with thousands of spectators eager for the games, the structure gave way without warning, sending the crowd crashing into the wreckage below.
