Materialists follows Lucy Mason, a successful New York–based matchmaker whose business treats romance almost like financial transactions. Lucy expertly pairs clients — rigid about traits like height, income, or lifestyle — yet struggles to apply the same clarity to her own love life. At a recent wedding tied to her matchmaking success, she encounters Harry Castillo, a wealthy and seemingly perfect bachelor, and unexpectedly reunites with her ex, John Pitts, now a struggling actor and part-time caterer. As Lucy navigates her growing attraction to Harry and the unresolved feelings stirred by John’s reappearance, the film explores themes of love, authenticity, and the tension between emotional connection and material aspirations. The movie was written and directed by Celine Song and stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans.
