The idea that ‘a calorie is a calorie’ is a concept that most people are familiar with. It is based on the idea that all calories are equal, regardless of the food they come from. This leads us to ‘calories in – calories out’ - the belief that we have to ‘move more and eat less’ to lose weight. We’ve been hearing that song for years. It’s been drilled into our heads. But it is such a drastic oversimplification of the metabolic process of nutrition that it begs the question, can you outrun your fork?
