Publisher's Summary:
It's pure myth that women need to be more aggressive to succeed. Since the time when Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In was first published in 2013, one thing has become strikingly clear: leaning in simply isn't enough to turn the tide. To the contrary, studies show that imitating male behavior doesn't translate to professional advancement for women. The distinctive missing link is influence.
In every industry, from private equity investing to network television, women are underrepresented at the top and underpaid across the board and throughout their careers. The gap in the literature about what puts women ahead is influence - the capacity to have an impact on agendas and outcomes. Influence is more important to the women we work with than power itself.
The Influence Effect focuses on building influence that will enable women to gain traction in their careers and to achieve the advancement they deserve. The tools in this book are geared to help women rise above the politics of business and succeed on their own terms by achieving greater influence. Women have goals they want to achieve and ideas they can champion through change, and influence is the currency they need to make that happen.

This was equally as good as Break Your Own Rules! Will recommend to everyone!

Yes, I'm a man. Believe me anyway and GET THIS BOOK.
If you are interested in being in the power position some day you need to read this book. This is the book that helps you find your way over, under, around, or through the many barriers that keep women from positions of power. The best thing is that it identifies strategies that, according to research, will be acceptable to women. Strategies men typically use are not. You hate office politics and power plays - use influence instead. You'd rather back off than have to win by coercion - use influence instead. You can use influence to cultivate strategic relationships, for delivering big ideas, and for overcoming the feeling that you are an imposter. With the information in this book you should never again have to wait your turn for a leadership position. This is a powerful book that will keep you from limiting yourself with old ideas. The book is very readable, easy to take to heart, and you'll be applying what you learn days after you start reading it. I'm 71 years old. I've been around quite a few power players. Yes, I'm a man. But believe me anyway and GET THIS BOOK.

It's time for women to stop fearing the word "politics" and use our influence
Politics. Most of us react like itâs a dirty word and it doesnât change any when we talk about workplace politics. Those are even worse because politics at work is more personal, tangible, and the elephant in the room. Some people are manipulative at politics in the workplace to the point where itâs over the top and nauseating. Sadly, politics at work is a necessary evil, and for most women, itâs a nightmare and can paralyze us.
No one âtrainsâ women how to work political so when we are newly minted in a job, it can be a shock to be told to start âpoliticking,â or we see it and feel lost or beaten down.
