When officers moved in, Armstrong had been living under an alias, using her sister’s passport to blend into the expat and tourist scene. She had even altered her appearance with cosmetic work, including changes to her nose and hair, in an effort to avoid detection. Despite these efforts, investigators pieced together her trail through travel records and witness accounts, leading to the dramatic arrest.
Her capture marked the end of one of the most publicized manhunts in recent U.S. criminal history, closing the chapter on weeks of speculation and dead ends.
