The Kaitlin Armstrong Files: Kaitlin Armstrong Is Captured In Costa Rica (10/4/25)
Update: 2025-10-04
Description
Kaitlin Armstrong’s six-week run from the law came to an end on June 29, 2022, when authorities tracked her down to a remote beach town in Costa Rica. Acting on intelligence and tips funneled through the U.S. Marshals Service, Costa Rican law enforcement located her at a hostel in Santa Teresa, a community popular with backpackers, surfers, and yoga practitioners. When officers moved in, Armstrong had been living under an alias, using her sister’s passport to blend into the expat and tourist scene. She had even altered her appearance with cosmetic work, including changes to her nose and hair, in an effort to avoid detection. Despite these efforts, investigators pieced together her trail through travel records and witness accounts, leading to the dramatic arrest.
Her capture marked the end of one of the most publicized manhunts in recent U.S. criminal history, closing the chapter on weeks of speculation and dead ends. Armstrong was taken into custody without incident and quickly extradited back to the United States to face trial for the murder of Moriah Wilson. The arrest highlighted both her determination to evade justice and the persistence of law enforcement, who coordinated internationally to bring her back. It also underscored the futility of her escape attempt—despite her planning, cosmetic changes, and new life in Costa Rica, Armstrong could not outrun the evidence or the global reach of investigators.
