Bill took the torch from Francis Lufkin who was a pioneer Smokejumper who helped get the Smokejumping program off the ground. Bill Moody was involved with the International Smokejumper exchange program with the Soviet Union. Bill also helped save North Cascades Smokejumper Base during an attempt to absorb NCSB into Redmond Smokejumper Base.
