O’Keefe’s girlfriend, Karen Read was charged with murder. On July 1, 2024, after an eight week trial, the jury was unable to reach a verdict and a mistrial was declared. Within a week, the lead investigator from the Massachusetts State Police was relieved of duty and a local police officer, whose brother owned the home where O’Keefe was found, was put on leave. Was this a simple domestic violence case?
