The Myth of Psyche & Cupid featuring Ilyssa Goldsmith
Description
This is the first episode in a series of 3 discussing the myth of Cupid and Psyche. The myth seeks to show the importance of balance between knowing oneself and accepting love. This balance ultimately, in theory, leads to pleasure. Ilyssa and Bitsy illuminate how the "poverty of language" can be overcome, and weave their way through understanding and retelling an epic story of love, beauty, and pleasure.
Ilyssa references Bulfinch's translation of the myth, which can be found here.
Antonio Canova has a beautiful statue of Cupid and Psyche on display at The Met in New York City. See their story come to life here.
