Today's Orthodox Nationalist takes us to northern Europe at the dawn of the 18th century, where Peter I has totally reformed the Russian army and, in 1709, reemerges as a great power, defeating the well-regarded army and navy of Sweden under Charles XII. The Great Northern War ended the imperial career of Sweden. The main enemy of this formerly great power was Russia, specifically, a modernized Russia under Peter I. His victory over Ivan Mazepa's Cossacks and the Swedish army commanded by Charles himself revolutionized the Russian state and economy as Russia launched itself into the modern world.<o:p></o:p>
