Description

The power of Twitter to organise a campaign at short notice was on display in Melbourne in recent days when an operation conducted by the Australian Border Force, in conjunction with Melbourne police, was cancelled following a huge storm of protests in the city. The Border Force sent out a press release announcing the operation to randomly intercept citizens in Melbourne for visa checks this weekend, Twitter caught fire upon hearing this, and the rest was history, forcing the Border Force in to an embarrassing back down. Steve and Ben discuss this incredible story of the power of Twitter, as well as an exploration of claims by author and journalist Jon Ronson that Twitter has gone from a place of curiosity and empathy to a place of cold, hard, instant judgment.
