I explore the social media comparison theory and how the social media highlight reel is not real nor reality!  Social comparison theory is where it all started, which then evolved to social MEDIA comparison. It's easy for us to get involved in the lives of others on social media and subconsciously build a notion that that is real life - its not! Social media has just amplified the normal human nature for comparison. This theory suggests that we measure our success, build our habits and determine our actions through the behaviours of those around us. We establish that as a benchmark for quantifying right vs wrong, good vs bad etc. In a positive light the highlight reels of others can motivate us to become better, in a negative light they can be damaging to our mental healthy and social psychology.
