Description

The word ‘Samsara’, literally meaning ‘continuous flow’ or ‘perpetual wander’, is the repeating cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth found, although expressed in different ways, within Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Tibetan Bön, Jainism, and to some extent in Sikhism. The followers of the Kabala also believe in the reincarnation of souls (Gilgul), and in ancient Greece, Orphism, Pythagoras, Plato and Socrates spoke about the ‘metempsychosis’ or the transmigration of souls. Early Christians believed in the transmigration of souls before the second council of Constantinople in A.D. 553, declared it a heresy.
