The Way of Sacrifice & Suffering
Update: 2022-04-21
Description
Palm Sunday is a needed reminder of the juxtaposition of how we so often want to experience Jesus’ journey and how Jesus’ journey actually unfolds. We prefer the celebratory parts of our faith, and often avoid or ignore the suffering, sacrificial parts. As Jesus acknowledges his suffering, and as he invites us to join him in suffering for the sake of serving others, the world, and even ourselves – we see a vulnerable invitation to draw closer to God in ways that will transform us. But accepting this invitation does require sacrifice and of course, we will definitely all suffer.
In the end, perhaps the biggest table that Jesus turns over in our lives, is the table of our expectations of how our lives should go if we are “good people of faith.” It turns out we are not saved from sacrifice or suffering; in fact, we just might be sent straight into them! Join us on Sunday as we explore this mystery of our faith, which is also one of the greatest examples and lessons we have from Jesus.
