Lebanon has undergone multiple global scale catastrophes in the last years, and there seems to be no end in sight for the country’s ongoing collapse. With over 80 % of the population having fallen under the poverty line, the struggles of the revolutionary movement have become even more challenging. What’s political sectarianism’s role in the Lebanese society and how does it affect individual lives in the country? How did the Lebanese revolutionary uprising in 2019 change the country’s political sphere and what are the limitations of revolution as a concept? In Lähi-itä NYT’s first English episode we discuss these and other questions with FIME’s resident scholar and assistant professor of Sociology at the American University of Beirut, dr. Rima Majed.
