Description

The President has declared a national emergency, and unlike previous ones. this one doesn’t have to do with a terrorist attack, sanctioning a foreign government, or an insurrection among US Citizens. This national emergency is... as President Trump says, to get money to build a wall along the US-Mexico border...

The House of Representatives already approved a measure that would overturn the president’s declaration… now it goes to the senate where 4 GOP senators are voting with the democrats to halt the president’s border wall plans. But it doesn’t seem the Senate or the House has enough votes to override a presidential veto.

Because this situation is so confusing, and it’s hard to understand WHO exactly has WHAT powers, I decided to get some clarity on the topic of presidential and legislative authority, as well as the role of the federal judiciary. So I reached out to constitutional law scholar, attorney West Allen. Mr. Allen has extensive experience representing clients in federal court on a wide variety of issues, including copyright, trademark and constitutional law disputes. He is currently the treasurer of the Federal Bar Association and is slated to be the National President of the F-B-A in 2020, making him Nevada’s first lawyer to lead a nationwide bar organization.
