The Israel - Palestinian conflict has been a perennial one for almost the last one hundred years. Of course the roots of the conflict reach back many centuries earlier. Since Israel became a recognized nation state in 1948 and the people called Palestinians lived mostly in the West Bank and Gaza, calls for a separate, independent Palestinian state are repeated in war and, if this ever happens, out of war. It's logical, seems fair, seems even doable because the proposal has been made upwards of ten times, Israel has agreed, yet each time the proposal was rejected by the Arab groups and Palestinian leaders. The issue at bottom is worldview. When ethnic hate is ingrained in belief systems and taught to toddlers, there is little chance of rational diplomacy winning the day. Challenges occur on both sides, and egregious brutality occurred most recently in what's called 10/7. This piece looks at the arguments, including biblical verses, and hopes for peace.
