Now for some questions about blood circulation. During exercise what receives the highest order of delivery?
- Skeletal muscle

What comes next?
- The heart

What is third?
- The brain

What is fourth?
- The kidneys

For exercise give these four in order of delivery.
- Skeletal muscle, heart, brain, kidneys

Now at rest what has the highest priority?
- Kidneys

What is second?
- The brain

What is third?
- Skeletal muscle

And fourth?
- The heart

Give these four in order for blood circulation at rest.
- Kidneys receive the most, then the brain, then skeletal muscle and finally the heart.

Which of those four also has the highest flow per tissue mass at rest?
- The kidneys

What has the second highest flow per tissue mass at rest?
- The heart

And third?
- The brain

And fourth?
- Skeletal muscle

Give them in order for the order of delivery and priority at rest.
- Kidneys, brain, skeletal muscle, heart

Now give them in order by the circulation per mass at rest.
- Kidneys, heart, brain, skeletal muscle

Student doctor please pause the tape and summarize the information on blood circulation
- During exercise Skeletal muscle receives the highest order of delivery, then the heart , then the brain, and finally the kidneys. Now at rest the Kidneys receives the highest order of delivery then the brain, then skeletal muscle and finally the heart. The Kidneys have the highest flow per mass at rest then the heart, then the brain, and finally skeletal muscle.

Now for some questions about cardiac output fixed principle and blood pressure. Cardiac output is equal to what?
- Oxygen uptake divided by the difference between arterial oxygen and venous oxygen

Okay now for some questions about blood pressure. What is pulse pressure?
- The difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure

What is the most important determinant of pulse pressure?
- Stroke volume

With aging what causes an increase in pulse pressure?
- A decrease in the capacitance of the arteries that is less elasticity

How is the average blood pressure computed?
- By dividing the pulse pressure by three and adding it to the diastolic.

Why divide by three?
- Because the systolic pressure contribution to the entire pressure average is only about a third of the complete cardiac circle.

Student doctor please pause the tape and summarize the information discussed on fixed principle and blood pressure
- Cardiac output is equal to oxygen uptake divided by the difference between arterial oxygen and venous oxygen. Pulse pressure is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Stroke volume is the most important determinant of pulse pressure. With aging, a decrease in the capacitance of the arteries that is less elasticity causes an increase in pulse pressure. The average blood pressure is computed by dividing the pulse pressure by three and adding it to the diastolic. You divide by three because the systolic pressure contribution to the entire pressure average is only about a third of the complete cardiac circle.
