Description

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby says no thanks to buying Spirit Airlines' assets, even with Spirit's second bankruptcy filing. Kirby cites high reconfiguration costs ($15 million per plane!) and a poor fit with United's existing network, especially a lack of gates in key Spirit markets. While United sits this one out, other airlines may swoop in to grab Spirit's planes and routes, but face their own challenges in integrating them. The industry watches as Spirit's bankruptcy could trigger a scramble for valuable assets.
