Description

What does unity mean in a society as diverse and divided as Iran? In this episode, we explore the long arc of Iranian national identity, from mystical poetry and constitutional dreams to the Green Movement and Woman, Life, Freedom. Drawing on the recent Iran 1400 article, Unity, Identity, and Civic Belonging in Iran, we examine how pluralism has shaped—and been suppressed in—Iranian political culture, and why Iranian citizenry may offer the most inclusive and future-facing foundation for national renewal.

We revisit Rumi and Sa’di’s pluralist wisdom, the Bahá’í Faith’s civic models, and the Constitutional Revolution’s unfinished aspirations, while engaging with contemporary calls for dignity, participation, and shared agency.
