Unraveling 27: All In Our Heads
Update: 2021-12-144
Description
What is a liberal democracy without a functional free press? The idea almost seems like a contradiction in terms. The mass media has become both more centralized and more politicized, driving us into closed silos of information and sense-making, and leading many Americans to doubt everything they don't hear from a trusted member of their own political tribe. Jocko & Darryl discuss the historical trends that have led to this situation, and whether there's a way out of the mess.

Love the Podcast and even thougb your political leanings are clear, I generally think you both do a good job of steering clear of turning this into a one sided political podcast, but I was a bit disappointed in this episode and felt it offered a very one sided approach. Media manipulation isn't a leftist thing, but something both the left and right have been heavily indulging in for the last 30 years. Yes, they have always been intertwined, but not like they are today. I absolutely agree that you're not going to find a whole lot in the NYT that doesn't have liberal finger prints all over it, but Fox News is still the number one news organization in the U.S., yet somehow the powerful ecosystem they have developed goes unmentioned. I really think you should have touched on the FCC's Fairness Doctrine and its dissolution in the Reagan era. That to me laid the groundwork for major media organizations to become overtly political and essentially to become extensions of the left and right
