Description

Originally airing On September 8, 1966, the television show Star Trek was supposed to follow the crew of the USS Enterprise on its five-year mission “…to boldly go where no man has gone before…” led by the one and only Capt. James T Kirk. Unfortunately, after just three short seasons NBC nixed the show in the summer of 1969 (don’t start singing) despite having won several Hugo awards and numerous petitions from fans across the country. The many adventures of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the rest of the crew would briefly be resurrected through an animated series that ran for two seasons in 1973 and 1974, however, this was admonished by show creator Gene Roddenberry calling it “non-canon” and did his best to disassociate himself with that particular series. It would take nearly a decade for the people to finally have their thirst for the final frontier quenched when Star Trek The Motion Picture was released December of 1979. But all was not well with Trekkies. The story picked up after the crew of the Enterprise had all gone their separate ways, leaving a huge hole in time between when the series was cut, and when the movie picks up…enter today’s guests on The Malliard Report.

This week on The Malliard Report you get a two-for for interview guests. For this episode, Jim Welcomes Vic Mignogna and Marc Cushman to the show to discuss their internet series phenom Star Trek Continues and the wave of success that has followed one of the most impressive fan-funded programs to date. Based around the missing timeline between the ending of the original NBC version and the motion picture Continues follows Kirk and his crew through the ending of the five-year mission of Enterprise. Achieving critical acclaim and even being deemed “canon” from the Roddenberry estate, Continues does an incredible job at recreating the original legend that was Star Trek. Vic and Marc certainly share their love and passion for the show and it really does shine through.

Victor Mignogna is an American actor and musician known for his voice-over work in the English dubs of Japanese anime shows, the most notable being Edward Elric from the Fullmetal Alchemist series, for which he earned the American Anime Award for Best Actor in 2007. Other notable animation roles include Broly from the Dragon Ball films, Tamaki Suoh in Ouran High School Host Club, Fai D. Flowright in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Dark in D.N.Angel, Kurz Weber in the Full Metal Panic! series, Zero and Ichiru Kiryu in the Vampire Knight series, Christopher Aonuma in Digimon Fusion, Nagato and Obito Uchiha in Naruto Shippuden, Ikkaku Madarame in Bleach, Qrow Branwen in the anime-style web series RWBY, and Matt Ishida in Digimon Adventure tri. In video games, he is the voice of E-123 Omega in the Sonic the Hedgehog series and Junpei Iori from Persona 3. In live-action work, he has participated in several Star Trek fan productions, including Star Trek Continues where he plays Captain James T. Kirk.”

Marc Cushman originally got his start in writing nearly thirty years ago and has a resume that certainly reaches far and wide. Marc’s TV writing includes Star Trek: The Next Generation, Beyond Belief, Diagnosis Murder, Channel K, and Bachelor Pad. His film list of works is just as impressive with titles like Midnight Confessions, In The Eyes of A Killer, and <a href="https://www.imdb.
