Mui states that growing up in Hong Kong was a privilege whilst building her life with a life-altering skin condition called Harlequin-type ichthyosis. The condition thickens the skin over almost the entire body at birth.

Mui has said that her condition is a privilege and a burden in equal measure. To have been afforded some incredible opportunities and experiences has been life-changing for her, but with all the good experiences, a number of struggles have arisen.

Mui is now a professional rugby referee, a yoga instructor and a carer.
