• Go the the showrooms, ask questions, get make and model numbers of products, take pictures and get samples.


• What are the lead times for products you like


• What are the retail costs (don’t expect to be given builder pricing)


• Give the product information to your contractor so he doesn’t present you with a contract with “allowances.”


• Read the contract thoroughly before you sign it.


• Get a completion date for your project


• Don’t give the contractor permission to select your finishes


• Know about change orders
