Weathering the storm: Negotiating safe but challenging spaces in PhD supervision

PhD Supervision is difficult. Being supervised as a PhD candidate is difficult. When is too much supervision a bad thing, when is too little supervision acceptable?
In this episode of Kafé Student, Sarah Hean Professor of Social Work at the University of Stavanger and PHD supervisor talks to Associate Professor Heidi Eriksen, who has recently completed her PhD on the Supervision process in students working on social work practice placements. We ask ourselves what, as PhD supervisors and PhD candidates, can learn from these supervisions in these other contexts. We explore in particular what Heidi calls “critical symmetry” in supervision relationships.
