Week 1 - How to Pray
Description
DIY—Your Faith | Week 1 | How to Pray
There are two types of people: those who DIY everything and those who DIY nothing.
Some of us take pride in doing everything ourselves—whether it's fixing a leaky faucet, repairing a car, or even tackling major home renovations. With countless YouTube tutorials at our fingertips, it seems like anything can be DIY’d.
Then there are those who hear the phrase “don’t try this at home” and take it to heart, applying it to every aspect of life.
When it comes to faith, we often treat it the same way. Some of us try to figure it out all on our own, while others rely entirely on someone else—pastors, mentors, or teachers—to guide every step.
But here’s the truth: God has already given us everything we need—the resources, wisdom, power, and the ultimate instruction manual, His Word—to DIY our faith. Our relationship with Jesus is personal, and we are called to take ownership of it.
Key Scriptures:
- James 1:22 (NIV) — Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
- Matthew 7:24 (NIV) — Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
You are not called to figure it all out alone, but you are called to take action.
Over the next several weeks, we’ll explore how to DIY our faith—how to pray, read the Bible, study Scripture, and apply its truths to our daily lives.
And the best news? We have the ultimate guide—the Holy Spirit—to lead us through it all.
