Once rules for warfare came into play things became more murky. What is a war crime? Well there is the phrase, its never a war crime the first time. Whether its the first time or just something no one had considered before, there have been a number of weird war crimes

As to the “buffer forces” term I’ve heard the term “trip wire forces” used to describe US and allied troops in South Korea today. Not enough to permanently forestall and invasion, but to defend until larger forces can deploy. Love your stuff!
