Description

The state of Utah in the United States is now the first to sign a law that will require parental consent before children below the age of 18 can create a social media account.

The law will give parents full access to their children’s accounts including private messages. The new bill which kicks-in in 2024 will set a curfew for children which will see them only able to be on social media between 10:30 pm and 6:30 am.

Social media firms will also not be allowed to collect the data of children on their platforms and use it for targeted marketing purposes.

So how are social media platforms going about protecting children currently? The team was joined by tech expert Brendon Peterson.
