Being a Christian is about walking in a relationship with the Lord and this doesn't happen overnight, nor is it something that we do only for a little while and then no more.

Walking with the Lord is a life-long endeavor. 

However, it is something that the Lord so desires - to walk with us and to fellowship with us on a daily basis!
