Hi, I’m Wendy Taylor-Loftus and welcome to the Confident Woman Academy podcast. Today I would like to ask, What is the reason for sabotaging your success?
Music
We all dream of being successful. I’m not talking about being rich or famous. I’m talking about whatever success is to you.
Could be a promotion at work, starting you own business, travelling the world, or becoming a published author.
It does not matter what the success is, we all have those dreams, but let me ask you something -
What is the reason for sabotaging your success?
Why are you not reaching that goal your internal compass always points to?
I can almost hear some of you saying, why would I sabotage my success? I want to be successful; I want to do well, I dream of the day I reach my goal.
But do you?
The idea of success may sound great and yet, you may be subconsciously damaging your chances of success. You may be doing it so subconsciously, and it may be so habitual you’re completely unaware of it.
Most of us fear moving forward because of the potential cost. Not financial but personal; what would be required of you to reach your target.
You cannot be the person you are today and live your version of success. Those dreams and goals require you, require us to step out of who we are right now.
We must become the stronger, more determined version of who we are today. The version that will not take no for an answer and is determined to get the results we want.
First of all,
How Do you Sabotage your success?
Talking to the wrong people
I mentioned this in my previous podcast #5, Walking In Your Shoes, about getting advice from friends and family who have a negative attitude and love to remind you of your past mistakes. You know what they’re going to say to you, but it’s as though you subconsciously seek confirmation why you should play small. You reach out for that negative affirmation.
Another reason…
Endlessly planning, researching and never doing
You know, checking, researching the latest information until you’re obsessed with the statistics. You have notes upon notes about the new detail you have found. Some of those figures become your reasons why you should not go for your goal. You forget about the people who have achieved success in the face of adversity. You make yourself one of those people who won’t make it. So you end up always endlessly planning and researching but never doing.
Another reason…
Nurturing the fear of how it will all go wrong
Never starting your idea - just in case. You see what others have done; you see it go wrong and think the same will happen to you, instead of seeing those errors as a part of the journey. You end up exercising more faith in failing than your potential success.
Always talking - never acting
When your idea becomes all talk and no action, you are doomed to never getting past the ‘napkin’ stage; it's what I call the napkin stage. The idea you've written down on a napkin while you were out for a meal. You're in a restaurant you’ve written it down, so you don’t forget it, but that is as far as it goes. It’s written down, but all you do is talk about it. You never go any further, your fears get the better of you.
But what is your reason for sabotaging your success?
Why would you allow that to happen?
We all have fears, and one of those fears could be -
Not being able to maintain it; not being able to maintain your success. So you say, What if I cannot keep my success? There is nothing more scary than reaching a great height and not being able to stay the...
