Description

This is Ask An Expert, where every weekday at 9:20 am on KCBS we're giving you direct access to top experts in various fields.

We're exploring the culture of mass consumption that now permeates nearly every aspect of modern American life.

As the U.S. evolved from a manufacturing economy into one dominated by information and service providers, the mass consumption of cheap goods has become the norm. These days, appliances are designed to be replaced within years, clothes are worn a few times before getting trashed, and we're seeing the rise of platforms like Temu and Shein.

To help us understand it all, KCBS Radio anchor Steve Scott spoke with Lizabeth Cohen, Research Professor of American Studies in the History Department at Harvard University.
