"I don't have any childhood trauma? I had a perfect childhood with great parents." It's hard for me not to have a smirk on my face when I hear/read this about someone that I'm about to go into counseling with. It's a widely-known "nugget of truth" that all of our adult problems stem from some upset or trauma from childhood (usually between the womb and 7 or 8 years old). When someone tells me that they are different and wanting me to believe that all of their problems stem from this adult life and this relationship, I may be the first person in their life to actually go beyond this boundary and affect real healing.
