Wild, Profane, and Godless
Description
Did you have a good couple weeks off? Feeling rested, relaxed?
I hope so.
Here at PublicDomaination.com we’ve been working to bring you the best in 100 year old fiction. Last time on the podcast we finished with ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and this week it’s on to the next, new thing.
‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is next. I decided after considering many options to go with another British author. Originally published serially in The Strand magazine, 1901-1902, and then in book form in 1902, it is a beloved work of fiction and a very famous example of a mystery novel.
I chose it mainly because I’ve never read it and it translates naturally to the podcast format. It’s brilliantly written with complex and beautiful use of the English language throughout.
Originally release serially in print, and now more than a century later released again in serial form on this podcast, how can the story speak to our modern world? In 115 years have we grown any wiser?
