Welcome to 15 minutes in the word, with New York Times best-selling author, Joyce Meyer.
00:00:36
On today's program, Joyce will be teaching from her series, Unleashing God's Wisdom.
00:00:42
On any given day, there can be multiple decisions, all of them meeting answers.
00:00:46
Whether it's one big decision or many small daily choices, each of us face these dilemmas in life and it can be overwhelming to confront them alone.
00:00:55
But there is hope.
00:00:56
God has the answers, and in this series, Joyce will help teach how to receive God's Wisdom and guidance for every single day.
00:01:03
Now here's Joyce with today's series, Unleashing God's Wisdom.
00:01:07
You know, you have to learn to do what's wise for you!
00:01:12
I'm in bed every night at 9 o'clock.
00:01:17
I'm asleep by 9.30.
00:01:19
I get up every morning at 5.30.
00:01:22
I spend at least two or three hours with God before I go out the door because I want to be nice.
00:01:27
I want to act like what I say that I represent and I need a lot of help.
00:01:36
So in order for me to get up early and spend that time with God, which I know that I'm desperate for, I have to go to bed.
00:01:46
Now, you should see people when they ask me to go maybe like to a play or a show that starts at 8 o'clock and I say, "Nope, can't do that."
00:01:56
My kid's teasing me, "Mom, the streetlights are coming on, you better run home."
00:02:00
But you know what?
00:02:04
I don't care because I'm 67 and I feel great.
00:02:07
And I know people that are 30 that can't do what I do.
00:02:13
But it's not just because I'm just this super blessed, special child of God.
00:02:21
Now, I have to be careful what I eat.
00:02:24
I know that I need to eat a lot of protein so I have to make right choices when I eat.
00:02:29
If I don't get my sleep at night, I am going to feel bad and I don't want to feel bad.
00:02:34
If you'll just begin to change some of your choices, come on, I'm preaching better than your acting.
00:02:40
Okay, so I've got you saying, "God, why am I feeling so bad?"
00:02:49
Well, you need to get more rest, you need to get more sleep, you need to quit drinking all the soda, you need to drink some water.
00:02:56
So God gives you a little, you know.
00:02:57
Now, here it comes.
00:03:01
Just remember Peter and the boat.
00:03:02
Well, I don't want to do that.
00:03:05
Well, then stay sick.
00:03:07
Wow, there's a healer coming to town next week.
00:03:18
I'm not going to his meeting, get into Berlin.
00:03:20
Oh, come on, we need to grow up.
00:03:24
We can't live stupid.
00:03:29
Oh, I better behave, I'm in another country.
00:03:36
Philippians 1, 10, Paul prayed for the church and I'm going to pray for you this morning.
00:03:47
Not what you might like, but what Paul prayed for the church and this is what he said.
00:03:52
Hello, there.
00:03:56
He said, "I pray for you."
00:03:59
Now, let's back up to verse 9, let's get it all.
00:04:02
So I pray that your love would abound yet more and more and extend to its fullest development and knowledge and all keen insight.
00:04:13
That your love might display itself in a greater depth of acquaintance and more comprehensive discernment.
00:04:24
This scripture is even saying that our love is manifested in us making wise and better choices so that you may surely learn to sense what is vital and a proven prize,
00:04:34
what is excellent and of real value, recognizing the highest and the best and distinguishing the moral differences.
00:04:41
Paul just prayed for them that they'd make good choices, excellent choices.
00:04:48
He didn't pray for their problems to go away, he prayed they'd make better choices.
00:04:51
Are you with me today?
00:04:53
If we start making better choices, then we won't have a problem every time we turn around.
00:04:59
Now we're still going to have problems and we still want to pray, but I don't want to live in the prayer line.
00:05:04
Poor time management causes all kinds of problems.
00:05:10
If you hear yourself complaining about how busy you are all the time, then change it.
00:05:16
If you want to know the truth, I got tired of hearing myself talk about how busy I was.
00:05:20
And I'm frankly tired of hearing other people talk about how busy they are.
00:05:24
How have you been brother busy?
00:05:28
Where have you been sister busy?
00:05:30
It's like if that's all we have to say about our life, that's pretty sad.
00:05:33
Now you might as well like it because it's true.
00:05:37
Ooh, I wish I had more time this morning.
00:05:43
Help me Jesus.
00:05:46
Let's talk about wisdom and finances.
00:05:49
The pressure of debt, the fear of money, is terrible.
00:06:01
I want to encourage you to get out of debt.
00:06:06
And do not just go to some miracle debt cancellation church service.
00:06:15
Pay your credit cards off, use them for convenience, and not to buy stuff you don't have the money to pay for.
00:06:27
Now I know this is hard for some of you because you've already got a mess.
00:06:36
And I know how you feel.
00:06:39
We had one to it one time.
00:06:40
When David and I had only been married a few years, he didn't really want credit cards.
00:06:45
I talked him into it.
00:06:46
The power of a woman is amazing.
00:06:48
And sure enough, pretty soon we had big balances on these credit cards and they were pressuring us.
00:06:55
You pay the smallest amount you can every month, the next month, you all more than you did the last month.
00:07:01
So he just made a firm decision that we were going to pay them off and I'm telling you the truth for two or three years.
00:07:09
We had to live very, very, very, very lean and we are already living pretty lean to start with.
00:07:15
And ever since that, we've never had a balance on a credit card that we didn't pay off at the end of the month.
00:07:24
And I don't tell you that bragging.
00:07:25
I don't tell you that to make you feel bad because I know that's not the case for a lot of you, but I want you to know that it's possible for you.
00:07:32
And if you don't believe it's possible, then you'll never do it.
00:07:37
It's possible for you to save money and pay cash for what you want.
00:07:41
It's possible.
00:07:42
You can save money and pay cash for your next automobile.
00:07:48
You're gone.
00:07:49
You can save money for that.
00:07:52
It's so easy to just say, "Charge it," but the bill is going to come.
00:07:59
Do I need to be in this section?
00:08:03
The bill is going to come.
00:08:06
I don't want to see people in a situation where if they lose their job, they have to just get afraid and panic.
00:08:15
Have an emergency fund where you've got some money in it.
00:08:20
Don't spend every penny you have.
00:08:22
Dave has a good little common sense way of managing money.
00:08:26
He has a 12th grade education, but he's one of the best money managers I've ever seen.
00:08:32
He's not complicated.
00:08:35
He didn't have to go take a college course on managing money.
00:08:38
Here's his philosophy.
00:08:40
Some spend some give some.
00:08:42
Isn't that hard?
00:08:46
Now, I'm up here.
00:08:54
He said, "Within your means."
00:08:58
Well, yes, obviously.
00:09:00
Within your means.
00:09:02
Save some, spend some, give some, within your means.
00:09:05
We all have borders and boundaries.
00:09:07
If you stay within your borders, then God will expand your borders.
00:09:11
Because you're being respectful to what you have.
00:09:15
Well, I should God give you a new car if the one you have now looks like a trash can.
00:09:19
Amen?
00:09:22
You might think, "Well, this isn't very spiritual."
00:09:26
Well, yeah, it is.
00:09:28
I'm teaching you how to live.
00:09:30
I'm teaching you how to get the pressure out of your life.
00:09:34
These are all biblical principles.
00:09:37
The Bible talks about saving enough that you can give an inheritance to your children's children.
00:09:44
It's that a good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children.
00:09:48
You shouldn't have to be afraid of what you're going to do when you retire.
00:09:56
And if you don't do something now, everybody say, "Now."
00:10:01
If you don't do something now, say, "Now."
00:10:03
Then you will.
00:10:06
Some day you're going to get old.
00:10:10
So you need to do something now.
00:10:20
I don't say this bragging in any way, shape or form.
00:10:25
But just to let you know what's possible if you have the patience to wait.
00:10:32
See, nobody's ever going to stay out of debt if they don't have the patience to wait.
00:10:39
Amen?
00:10:40
Patience is power.
00:10:42
When you can be patient, that's a powerful life.
00:10:50
The only money that we have ever borrowed in this ministry, and we actually didn't borrow it, we made payments on a $500 copy machine that we bought from a Baptist Church in the very beginning of our ministry.
00:11:05
And we made $10, $50 payments on that.
00:11:10
That's the only thing in 30 years of ministry that we've ever borrowed.
00:11:21
Why?
00:11:23
I'll be honest with you and tell you I probably would have borrowed because I'm not as patient as day.
00:11:29
But Dave said, "Nope, we're not going to borrow."
00:11:32
And he'd have these little accounts where he would start saving for a building.
00:11:36
And he'd see sometimes three and four and five and six years down the road, something that was in his heart that he thought we were going to need later, and he'd have little accounts.
00:11:46
When he was a kid, he kept his money in his socks.
00:11:49
He'd always have this sock in his drawer with money in it.
00:11:55
He would save some, spend some, give some.
00:11:58
When he was 16, he paid cash for his first car because he planned for it probably from the time he was a little kid.
00:12:07
Some people don't know how to save everything, they spend everything.
00:12:13
Some people don't give anything.
00:12:15
The Bible says, plainly in Malachi 3, "Do not rob God by withholding your tithes and offerings."
00:12:22
Some are right away saying, "Well, I don't believe in tithing, that's all testament."
00:12:27
Why are you silly thing?
00:12:28
You're just trying to get out of giving.
00:12:30
I mean, if they could tithe under the law, what would we be doing under grace?
00:12:37
I don't believe in tithing either.
00:12:39
I believe in going way beyond that.
00:12:42
Bring all the tithe, the whole tenth of your income into the storehouse.
00:12:48
There might be meat in my house.
00:12:50
That means give to the places where you're taught and you worship.
00:12:58
Put your finances into a storehouse, a spiritual place where when other people come to that place for help, there's help there for them.
00:13:08
What am I supposed to do when a woman walks in our front door at work and she's got her three kids whether and she's crying?
00:13:17
My husband just ran off and left me.
00:13:19
I just got evicted.
00:13:20
I can't feed my babies.
00:13:22
Can you help me?
00:13:23
Am I supposed to say no?
00:13:24
Sorry, we don't have enough set aside to do that?
00:13:27
Well, of course not.
00:13:29
The Bible says that we should be prepared to give into every good work.
00:13:34
Every good work.
00:13:35
And the only way you can do that is if you plan for it ahead of time.
00:13:41
Thanks for listening.
00:13:43
James 1.5 encourages us that if we desire wisdom, we need only ask God and it'll be given.
00:13:48
So what are we waiting for?
00:13:50
It begins with trust.
00:13:52
Trusting him opens the door to his leading.
00:13:54
As we make the journey with God and his word, we'll discover that no matter how big or small the issue, he is ready to help guide us.
00:14:01
As we learn to make right choices today, we'll be happier with our tomorrow.
