Woke croaks: “peak woke” has passed

Over the past decade a form of wokeness arose on the illiberal left, characterised by extreme pessimism about America and its capacity to make progress. Analysis by The Economist of how influential these ideas are today finds that wokeness peaked in 2021-22 and has since receded. Why is America becoming less “woke”?

Lol, the meaning of 'Woke' has for a long time been defined not by the left, but by the fear, ignorance and hate of the right. Who kept using the word? The right. Tellingly, no one now (and for a very long time previously) who stands for progress and acknowledges the deeply embedded institutional & systemic inequalities within societies describes themselves as 'Woke'. Surprised an institution like the Economist hadn't recognised that...😬
