Your purpose is to create and influence culture not to conform to it
Description
We, being created in God's image, possess an immense capacity for creativity. Creativity comes in various forms and everyone is expected to use their unique creative skills.
We have a shared responsibility to create positive relationships in our families, our neighborhoods, and in our communities. We can do this through small acts of kindness and by fostering connections.
This may involve standing up against inappropriate behavior in our families, workplaces and neighborhoods. We can boldly set the tone for a positive atmosphere! (Think Rosa Parks--we can do what's right regardless of the bullies who behave otherwise!)
Too many people leave their Christian faith each year. Instead of Christians influencing the culture, the culture is influencing us.
Small compromises in behavior, such as engaging in inappropriate humor, watching explicit content, or listening to certain music, can slowly change a person's values and beliefs, leading to a departure from those values and the faith from which they emanate.
It's incumbent upon each of us to live our faith and to share its benefits, even amidst challenges. We need not impose our faith on anyone but we should instead demonstrate it through love and good deeds.
A person, a neighborhood, a workplace or a community that is characterized by faith and love is attractive and inspiring to others.
Our purpose is found in our creative ability to influence the people around us in a positive, helpful way. To do this, it's helpful to find purpose and service in one's work, rather than viewing work as a necessary drudgery. Consider how your work benefits others, rather than focusing on your own personal gain.
Think of ways to help the most vulnerable in your community. For example, collecting sweaters, coats, and blankets for the homeless, or asking for volunteers to join existing community projects. Check to see what opportunities to serve already exist in your area, but you don't have to wait for someone else to come up with an idea. You can take the initiative to serve.
Helping others can be life-changing for the people you help AND FOR YOU! It can lead to unexpected friendships and enriching experiences. It's not always easy, and it's possible that we'll face obstacles but our perseverance in doing good will pay off!
The importance of creative expression of love can provide a stable sense of worth that cannot be taken away. If you will adopt a mindset of putting your love into action, especially with people who cannot reciprocate, you will be influencing the culture for good.
You don't have to be a Christian to do this, but Christians are supposed to be known for our love and kindness. Let's influence the culture rather than confirming to it by withholding our charitable actions from those who need them most.
Your purpose is real success, and it includes healthy relationships with good people, peace, joy, wellness, financial stability and a sense of contentedness that cannot be attained any way other than through living your purpose. So please listen every week as we continue to move toward finding and living the purpose for which you were born and perfectly matched.
