new year, but not
Description
outside the culture is BACK with a new episode brought to you by the OTC NETWORK. hosted by Trez and Jordi, this conversation acknowledges the craziness that #2020 brought us. we have to talk about it once, so that we never have to talk about it again. it was a long year, so it is a long episode! the year 2020 was destructive on several levels: political, economical, social, etc. this year was the last of Donald Trump's presidency... an administration remembered by kids in cages, failed legislation (including a failed pandemic response), and a rebirth of white nationalism. the deaths of #AhmaudArbery #BreonnaTaylor #GeorgeFloyd and #TonyMcDade brought many of us out into the streets with the resurgence of the #BlackLivesMatter2020 movement.
we could not resist moving into a deeper discussion regarding the coronavirus as there continues to be controversy surrounding the vaccine, even as the pandemic mutates and magnifies. a vaccine awareness initiative by Tyler Perry brings up questions about the trust in government and medicine, within black communities. closing out our discussions on the coronavirus and 2020, we briefly discuss our feelings on #Inauguration2020 and our hopes for the future of our country. it's looking better than it did before, but we still have so much further to go.
after a brief interlude, we discuss the wild tale of #Robinhood #GameStop and how a stock went from $4 to $400. if you were lucky enough to take part in the profits, please donate to $outsidetheculture :) we also discuss the odd history of the word #mulatto and how refreshing it was to know that the rapper Mulatto plans on changing her name. lastly, we review two viral video clips of colorless people showing out in public. because ghetto comes in more than one flavor.
