We generally expect that as people age they would cultivate character, wisdom, maturity, right But, the fact of the matter is, most of us don't. Most of us are as we were in our adolescence. Shocking?
We may cultivate more ways to avoid, ignore, distract and deny life as it is, so that we don't have to really grow and stretch ourselves, which means that we can’t truly be elders for the younger generations.
It's not that we don't want to be elders. We just haven't had a culture, at least in the US, that grows us up into our elder potential. It's sad but true.
