About Dr. Ryan James

Dr. Ryan James is the CEO and Founder of Dopl Technologies, where he’s pioneering the use of robotics and AI to deliver distributed, on-demand diagnostic and interventional care to underserved communities.

He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical and Health Informatics from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. His career spans Microsoft (software applications), NVIDIA (GPU-accelerated AI image processing), and Pluto VR, where he led engineering to break down geographic barriers through immersive platforms.

Ryan is a serial entrepreneur with expertise in medical imaging, human-machine interfaces, computer vision, and low-latency teleoperation. His mission is personal: inspired by his father’s work as an OB/Gyn reducing Black infant mortality in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Ryan is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to care — globally.
