We also know where his weak spots are and what atrocities his regime is committing on a daily basis.War in Ukraine is his latest and so far the biggest crime. We translate and bring you the views, news and best strategic, cultural and sometimes philosophical analysis from the frontlines. Form Ukraine fighting for its survival, and from Russian opposition, that is starting to see a new hope. The backbone of this station is Arestovych and Feygin daily war diaries. The Adults in the Room
Nastya Krasilnikova is an investigative journalist who covers sexual violence against women and children. A year and a half ago, former students associated with one of Russia’s most prestigious schools approached her with allegations of serial abuse by teachers. Her investigation has uncovered a network of harm and complicity in a tight-knit circle of Russian intelligentsia. The story spans many years and multiple countries. It asks what happens when a community refuses to atone for the violence of its leaders. As Russia wages a senseless war in Ukraine, that question couldn’t be more pressing. About a Boy: The Story of Vladimir Putin
The West's obsession with Vladimir Putin's KGB past often misses the biographical detail that can be captured by a single word: dvor. The word means courtyard in Russian, but to a Russian speaker, it is evocative of a whole universe. It was the space where Putin, like so many Soviet kids of his generation, grew up and learned an unforgiving, often brutal social code. Puck journalist Julia Ioffe introduces Westerners to that universe and explains why it’s critical to understanding the Russian president and what he might do next in the war against Ukraine.

If you want the standard conservative talking points, this podcast isn’t for you. Jewish Children (Yudishe Kinder) by Sholem Aleichem
Although written from a child’s perspective, this is not a kids book but a series of funny, poignant, and sometimes disturbing stories about life in a late 19th-century Russian-Jewish village — the world of my grandparents. Sholem Rabinovich (1859-1916) was born in Pereiaslav, Ukraine and later immigrated to New York. His short stories about Tevye and his daughters were freely adapted into the musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Rabinovich’s will contained the following injunction: “Let my name be recalled with laughter or not at all.” His translator, Hannah Berman, was Irish of Lithuanian descent. Some of these stories may be too intense for younger children.
