(Part 2) About a year ago, John Preached some messages called Gospel Assurance in an Age of Uncertainty.  He gave this message to encourage his flock because - As a nation we were just starting to peek our heads out of the Pandemic and dealing what many were calling Pandemic PTSD.  We were not alone in how we felt.  It definitely took a toll on us emotionally, financially and spiritually.  We are revisiting those messages now because the Gospel Truths and encouragement are still needed.  I hope and pray these messages bless and encourage you today.  Book Mentioned in Episode: Hope And Holiness: How The Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purity by John FonvilleAbout the book:https://www.paramountchurch.com/hope-and-holiness-bookAmazon Page for Hope and Holiness:https://a.co/d/4aAyglJAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Today is our concluding Sola – Called Soli Deo Gloria – Our Only Goal.  Has your ego ever gotten in your way?  Or you just want the credit or the praise for something you achieved?  When it comes to our salvation, only God should get the credit, right?  We didn’t earn it.  It’s an incomparable gift of God’s grace and kindness to us.  Let’s listen now to this concluding sola and see how John ties all of them together.Book Mentioned in Episode: Hope And Holiness: How The Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purity by John FonvilleAbout the book:https://www.paramountchurch.com/hope-and-holiness-bookAmazon Page for Hope and Holiness:https://a.co/d/4aAyglJAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Are you enjoying the 5 Solas?  Today is #4 -- Sola Fide.  All the Solas are significant and closely tied together.  However, our faith alone in Jesus Christ to save us from our sins is what separates Protestant Christianity from all other religions. We are surrounded by “man’s achievements” and false shepherds with their religions that the Apostle Paul strongly condemned because it was another gospel that dangled the carrot of human achievement, but completely lacked the power save.  Jesus Christ himself said, “it is finished”.  He was that perfect standard so we could put our faith in Him and not have to look to the law to save us.Book Mentioned in Episode: Hope And Holiness: How The Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purity by John FonvilleAbout the book:https://www.paramountchurch.com/hope-and-holiness-bookAmazon Page for Hope and Holiness:https://a.co/d/4aAyglJAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. What is Grace For?

What is Grace For?

2023-10-3048:14

(Episode #3 Sola Gratia - Our Only Cause) Sola Gratia is the third pillar of the 5 Solas of the Reformation.  It means our Salvation is by Grace Alone and today we are going to learn that Grace is one of the sweetest and kindest gifts from God that we know as believers.  John will be dispelling any misunderstandings we may have about grace and will answer three questions: What is Grace? What does grace look like as God applies it in the life of sinners? And thirdly, what is the ultimate purpose of grace?Book Mentioned in Episode: Hope And Holiness: How The Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purity by John FonvilleAbout the book:https://www.paramountchurch.com/hope-and-holiness-bookAmazon Page for Hope and Holiness:https://a.co/d/4aAyglJAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. (Episode #2 - Solus Christus) Are the five Solas of the reformation relevant to us today? Well, according to John Fonville, not only are they relevant, the five Solas are five, very rich, central truths that bring us back to the heart of the gospel. They proclaim that salvation is based on scripture alone, which leads us by grace alone, through faith alone, and  Christ alone for the glory of God alone.  John believes the five Solas are not just merely historical landmarks of a day gone by.  But rather five central trues of Jesus Christ that can bring us into a new modern reformation.  Wouldn't that be amazing?Book Mentioned in Episode: Hope And Holiness: How The Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purity by John FonvilleAbout the book:https://www.paramountchurch.com/hope-and-holiness-bookAmazon Page for Hope and Holiness:https://a.co/d/4aAyglJAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Back in 2017 – which sounds like a lifetime ago, John Fonville helped commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation with a set of messages called the Five Solas.  It’s one of our favorite sets to play during this time of year.  Tradition says the Reformation began on October 31st, 1517 when Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the Door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany – He was simply trying to reform the Catholic Church in those days, and instead challenged a powerful and unbiblical system that worked hard to shut him down.  In turn it led to a series of debates and reforms in theology, interpretations and practice that we know and celebrate today in modern churches.  There’s a lot of gospel good news ahead for us and I hope you’ll enjoy this series either for the first time, or as a refresher.  Let’s press play on the first Sola – Which is Sola Scriptura.  That simply means, Scripture is Our Final Authority.Book Mentioned in Episode: Hope And Holiness: How The Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purity by John FonvilleAbout the book:https://www.paramountchurch.com/hope-and-holiness-bookAmazon Page for Hope and Holiness:https://a.co/d/4aAyglJAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. What is the Bible all about?  Is it just an old book of disconnected stories and endless genealogies that somehow teach us moral lessons?  Is it some randomly chosen accounts of people who were somehow amazing enough to have their lives featured in the pages of Scripture?   Or is it simply a self-help rule book that’s there to help us better our lives?  Well, those are some self-centered perspectives aren’t they?  What about this?  The Bible shows us how the Lord kept His promises to a bunch of ordinary, everyday, faithless, godless sinners who didn’t deserve it.  How’s that’s for some good news?  Resources:Hope and Holiness: How the Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purityhttps://www.moodypublishers.com/hope-and-holiness?fbclid=IwAR2rE5lUjJWQtmgi0xbQRL9cyt5KlRHunSBL8xBOCCJj3ckfRvzu9lSTZWUAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. The Blessed Life

The Blessed Life

2023-10-1441:21

In our study of Galatians 3 called Sons of Abraham, we see that the Apostle Paul is taking on the issue of faith versus works for salvation. He says clearly that those of faith are the sons of Abraham and are blessed. That's good news, right? Well, not to someone who is a direct descendant of Abraham and has been trusting in the law and works to be blessed. This was a big deal, and we're going to find out more today in a message called The Blessed Life.Resources:Hope and Holiness: How the Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purityhttps://www.moodypublishers.com/hope-and-holiness?fbclid=IwAR2rE5lUjJWQtmgi0xbQRL9cyt5KlRHunSBL8xBOCCJj3ckfRvzu9lSTZWUAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. The Four Gardens

The Four Gardens

2024-03-1041:12

Who doesn't love a well cared for garden right?  Gardens are incredibly therapeutic. They are incredibly therapeutic.  As we look to scripture, we see there is a theme of at least 4 fascinating garden scenes.  John has studied these 4 places of beauty, and has pulled out the Gospel good news from each of them.  For instance, we have the iconic Garden of Eden that was meant to be a place of sweet fellowship with God, and in the New Testament, we have to the Garden of Gethsamane where Jesus pleaded with his Father. There’s so much to these significant places of cultivation and growth.  Resources:Hope and Holiness: How the Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purityhttps://www.moodypublishers.com/hope-and-holiness?fbclid=IwAR2rE5lUjJWQtmgi0xbQRL9cyt5KlRHunSBL8xBOCCJj3ckfRvzu9lSTZWUAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. John is going to answer some thoughtful questions about why believers feel far from God. And one of those questions is, is God angry with me when I sin?  John brings us gospel-centered answers today that we hope will be of great encouragement to you. Nobody's perfect, right? We've all heard that phrase. Because only God is perfect. Well, we face a dilemma, don't we? God demands perfection, and we simply are not able to deliver on that. There's a verse in Psalm 130 that brings this out, and I paraphrase. If the Lord were to keep track of our sins or iniquities, who could stand before him and survive judgment? The obvious answer is no one. Today, John will walk us through a three fold answer to this salvation dilemma, and you may have some familiarity with it already. And that is by grace alone, through faith alone, and in Christ alone. Resources:Hope and Holiness: How the Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purityhttps://www.moodypublishers.com/hope-and-holiness?fbclid=IwAR2rE5lUjJWQtmgi0xbQRL9cyt5KlRHunSBL8xBOCCJj3ckfRvzu9lSTZWUAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida. If you had to make a list of the top three things that help you grow spiritually, what would you suggest?  Would you say prayer, listening to worship music and reading your Bible?  While these are good things, are they "means of grace" or "means of gratitude?" John says there are three things known as "means of grace" that should be present in your church and life that are chief ways we can grow spiritually: preaching, baptism and the Lord's Supper.  Resources:Hope and Holiness: How the Gospel Enables and Empowers Sexual Purityhttps://www.moodypublishers.com/hope-and-holiness?fbclid=IwAR2rE5lUjJWQtmgi0xbQRL9cyt5KlRHunSBL8xBOCCJj3ckfRvzu9lSTZWUAbout JohnJohn Fonville is Pastor of Paramount Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
