Snag your free resume review: CLICK HEREThere are so many false beliefs we have that are not actually true. For example, I thought that I couldn't help someone else with their job marketing materials because I didn't have industry knowledge in a specific field. That’s obviously not true, the knowledge of what I have is a background in recruiting and HR with yes different industries, not all within the world, but I always inhale new knowledge and practices and from there it makes me a better career coach.Just because I didn’t have this knowledge doesn’t mean I’m not capable.A common interview question is where do you see yourself in 5 years?Do you know where you want to be?Now imagine it, this really shows a picture of what you want to do and become and makes the process more of a sight of okay that’s where I want to be. I’m going to act as though I’m there already. It’s a mindset aspect but also a way to where you embody this and you then take actions that lead you there.I know this is more of a psychological mindset topic, but the mindset and the way you see yourself have a great impact on your job success.I would encourage you to reflect on how are you loving yourself.FIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HERESupport the show
Snag your free resume review: CLICK HERESo before accepting a job you need to analyze and reflect on these 4 questions and that is:Is this a role that I can learn and grow from?Does this company value its employees?Does this company encourage employee growth training, team-building exercises, and events?Do I feel comfortable asking my superiors and co-workers questions, especially during training? Are there opportunities within the company? If you go into a company and you don’t align with the questions I just told you. You may end up not enjoying your job and wanting to leave quicker. I just wanted to put those out there, because I think it’s important for us to always reflect, and never jump or apply to a job just because. Now, during your first week in the role you should on your own creates a 90-day new hire action plan, I actually go over this in my New Hire Success Planning Sessions.A 90-day plan is your own self-created action plan that helps you succeed in 90 days. Now because many roles are remote and hybrid their onboarding and training processes might not be established yet or even the same flow as they would be in person. It’s based on your learning, how you contribute, and how you take initiative. FIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HERESupport the show
Snag your free resume review: CLICK HEREYou should have a proper career story for your break, what kind of value and things came about from this break. So for example, if you’re away for mental health what were some things you’ve done during that time of your mental health break. Or what about family leave or care? What were some valuable things you've done in taking care of that family member, maybe you handled their bills or scheduled their transportation or coordinated appointments with doctors? It's at times hard for us to set our own boundaries within the workplace or even know what boundaries should be set. When boundaries are established it will allow room for better team connection and communication. In this episode we talk about:1) Emotional Boundaries2) Mental Boundaries3) Communication what it looks like and means4) Common boundaries to establish5) How to use this to grow communication with your teamA recap of some of what we discussed: First, you have to figure out what are your boundaries? easy way to establish for you to think of what you stressed about is taking up your time and energy. If your mind is still lost and confused with establishing this “what” Think of these common areas to establish boundaries:The days and hours that you work. So instead of the 10-hour shift because you have to finish more work, end your work shift on time, or don’t work that Saturday to squeeze in more work. Your communication methods, maybe bringing in a project management tool for better team collaboration and communication.Your time off, actually not feeling guilty on taking your time and not having to explain why. If there is a specific boundary that relates to you make sure to bring it into your list. Once you have your boundaries, communicate them!!!Yes, you cant have boundaries without communicating them to others, and if you don’t communicate them in the future miscommunication can occur because of it. And here's the thing, your boundaries, your right so doesn't be sorry about your boundaries, don't be sorry because you didn't answer that email at 10p don't be sorry if you have to stick to your tasks and not drop anything the second someone comes asking for your help. Be polite, be professional, but don't push boundaries any further. If it feels like your manager is pushing them, make them aware of your responsibilities and ask them which task you should put on hold to then include in your new one. And please friends use your PTO and stay away from your email and laptop. You don't get credit for not using your PTO, it’s your right and benefit that you’ve accumulated there so you’re doing yourself justice and a great thing for your mental health and creative ability if you take that time off. Hope you enjoyed this episode check out my socials and offers below: FIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HEREGrab my Salary Negotiation Guide: CLICK HERESupport the show
Interested in this podcast exclusive for a free resume review with Melissa? Schedule your call: FREE RESUME REVIEW The job search can feel dreadful, but what about the interview process? How many interviews should you go through? How do you know if it's normal? In this episode we talk about:1) What is too excessive during an interview2) Why communication is important3) What the reality really is 4) How long you should your notice be5) A helpful schedule for job searching A recap of some of what we discussed: I don’t believe there's a need honestly for more than 5 interviews if it’s in an executive role. If you are in a mid or entry position 3 should be more than enough.Through an interview and based on the conversation you can easily understand if the individual has the skills that's needed to perform the responsibilities of the role.I think what brings in a positive interview experience is how streamlined and how much communication you receive. If you want to limit the number of interviews, panel interviews are great.2 or 3 individuals over the web meeting or in person. This way everyone can get an understanding of a candidate and they aren’t going through the crazy interview process, feeling discouraged. It’s a terrible feeling to go through all the interviews and then not end up as the one with the offer.I get that, I do think each interview is a lesson and experience for the candidate to learn and take advantage of.This is why I do believe though just as finding the right candidate is important to the employer, the candidate having the right experience is also just as important.Panel interviews are also a great way to help with this.Hope you enjoyed this episode check out my socials and offers below: FIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HEREGrab my Salary Negotiation Guide: CLICK HERESupport the show

HMMMMM... We're going to dive into this topic and if doing this would be right for you.In this episode we talk about:1) How to know if you're prepared2) The talks about the "great resignation" 3) Sharing your knowledge when you leave 4) How long you should your notice be5) A helpful schedule for job searching A recap of some of what we discussed: Quitting without a job lined up has its positives and negatives which we have established. Quitting your job with another job lined up also has its positives and negatives. On that side of it, you may wonder how? You have another job lined up.New job, new culture, new training, new management. You never TRULY know how much a job is for you until you’re in it. The company might align with your values and needs the department also might align. But it’s not until you are truly in it doing the work and connecting with everyone that you get to see if that new job happiness stays because you love where you’re at or if you’re not fulfilled again...I think just because we’re in this great resignation where everyone wants to quit because of XYZ. Desire to advance in your career? Sign up for my Career Advancement & Success Roadmap. The two-week training will get you where you want to be in your career.  ENROLL NOW!The dreaded desire to get hired... there's a waiting game, and that can feel annoying, frustrating, sad, it can be an emotional rollercoaster. We hate to hear the answer: "It Depends" In this episode, I explain why and talk about it further. In this episode we talk about:1) The average time it takes to get hired2) Networking should be your best friend3) Smart Goals 4) Growing your skillset5) Finding a mentorA recap of some of what we discussed: On average it takes anywhere from 3-6  months and there’s an average of an 8% chance of getting a call back from the job you applied to. So approximately as high as 20 applications could be needed and then there are the interview phases. Interviews are also a sense of where you grow as a job seeker.Networking should be your best friend. I was actually having a conversation with someone and spoke about how networking should have been used LONG ago. She was wondering why she didn't do it at the beginning of her career because it gets to be easy. It enhances your confidence.Track and analyze what you do, I find it so important. We tend to be like nothing working screaming and pulling our hair out yet we don't have any idea why.Creating a tracker with all the jobs you applied for, interviewed, or networked with, will really help you understand how can you enhance what you’re weak in maybe you interviewed a bit but haven't gotten that offer, so maybe some work can be needed there. You won't know what it is unless you track it.Another one is to Grow your skill sets. Maybe there's a certification that can help you or a class you can take that can be added to your resume even those LinkedIn learning courses are great. Take advantage of what's out there, sometimes those added knowledge points will help you so much with your quality as a candidate.Hope you enjoyed this episode check out my socials and offers below: FIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HEREGrab my Salary Negotiation Guide: CLICK HERESupport the show
Download my FREE job search tracker that was made to help you get organized in your job search so you can obtain the final offer.Connecting is an extremely important piece to interviews and workplace success.  Think of it like this... how would you feel if you worked with someone that you didn't feel comfortable with and there's an awkward sensation? Not very good right? You might even be inclined to leave. Hiring managers are going to hire those they can connect with the most and of course have the right set of skills for the job.  In this episode we talk about:1) Informational Interviews. Why they're important!2) Moving on, easier said than done3) Pay attention!A recap of some of the discussion: Informational interviews are going to lead to job offers and more connections. Not every single person is going to be someone you connect with or make you feel you know all warm and fuzzy about the call. But there are so many other people that can even work for the company you haven't spoken to yet so you’ll want to make sure you don’t take it personally. The next thing is to observe and take action. So observe to find out what works within the relationship. Is there something that you both mutually agree on, could be a common hobby they could see that you're really strong in a system and skill and you remember that really stood out to them and they liked that. And finally, you know you’re free to leave the job if you’re really really not comfortable there. It’s better to be in an environment where you feel safe, happy, and not stressed about running into someone. What’s their website like, their LinkedIn profile? What does their bio say? Get to know them by researching and seeing if you both can mesh and if it feels right to you. With that, you have to understand what’s your actual purpose or motivation for why you need one. It’s not right to just throw your hands up in the air and say I need a new job. I'll just hire someone to do the work for me. But what's the reason? In this episode we talk about:1) Why your investment matters2) Commitment3) Your purposeFIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HERESupport the show
Download my FREE job search tracker that was made to help you get organized in your job search so you can obtain the final offer.I title these "mistakes" but honestly let's face it, mistakes are essential for our growth and development. Even the most powerful leaders make mistakes. I make them too. But these things, let's call them that hinder us from our success within our job search are easily fixable. This is why I bring you this episode so we can discuss it and how you bring yourself to a new level of advancement next time.In this episode we talk about:1) Why the way you apply is important (Hint, it's about how you use your resume and cover letter)2) The way to network with humans3) Being close-minded to opportunities. A recap of some of the discussion: Personalize what you are applying for, the biggest thing to take advantage of is the job posting. It has all the skills and requirements that they expect you to have at a minimum. Customize each one, it is best for the ATS system. A job should not take 5 minutes to apply for. Choosing to apply under those 5 minutes probably means that you are clicking the “apply button” on anything you see. This is not going to get you anywhere, especially if you want to use networking in conjunction with job applications. It is okay to have some emotions towards a change- from a big company to a small one or from a coordinator position to a manager. Whatever the change is, it is there to develop your growth and take your skills to the next level. If you have a fear behind the “out with the old and in with the new” take some time to assess your skills and your value. FIND MELISSA CARVALHO:connect with me and send me a message over on LinkedIn: CLICK HEREOptimize your job search with an ATS Friendly Resume Template: CLICK HERESupport the show

You feel like something is missing, and you want the next thing. You haven't learned or done anything new in a while. That’s probably the #1 time that people tend to look for growth is because they're tired of their everyday life. I will say that you don’t want to reach this point and search for a new career because in this time it’s like the stress, and the emotions come to play and that can affect you to jump into a role that may not be the right one for youYou have this deep desire to do something different.
