Description

If you've taken part in a religious service, have you ever stopped to think about how it all came to be? How did people become believers? Where did the rituals come from? And most of all, what purpose does it all serve? This week, we explore these questions with psychologist Azim Shariff, who argues that we can think of religion from a Darwinian perspective, as an innovation that helped human societies to survive and flourish.

One of the most interesting discussions I've ever heard. Explains so much of human history and culture.

Thank you for this episode! I have recently been in a very distraught family affair over religious beliefs from other family members during the death of my grandfather. It was painful to watch as it happened during this time when one fail to respect another's religion. I am in awe by how blinded one can be that they are not aware it's hurting more than doing any good. I am a non-believer of any kind of god. Religion separates people (in my above experience), but I understand it also helps people to survive through tougher times to give believers a sense of hope. I think and feel about religion in the way the psychological study presented in this podcast. I appreciate it very much.
